We did it! I did it! You did it! Owego is OFFICIALLY the COOLEST Small Town in America! I couldn’t be more proud if i had discovered Owego myself! Budget Travel Magazine back in February went looking for the coolest small town in America for their annual contest. Out of 152 submissions, Owego beat everyone!

I was born in Owego and lived there until 23 when I moved to Endicott but Owego still a part of me. I was just there over Easter to have dinner at the Treadway Inn! I love to go visit The Jailhouse Restaurant and dine inside their cells. I love Hickories Park in the summer when you can swing on the bench swing and look at the water below. I love all the shops on Lake Street where I used to ride my bike with my best friend and buy 50 cent earings at Van Horn Jewelers back in the 80’s. Oh, those were the days, and they still are now! The Strawberry Festival every June, the pumpkins at Jackson’s Pumpkin Farm and Iron Kettle and everything inbetween.

Owego has pride. Owego Free Academy was my school and the Indians rock! I’m so proud of everyone who stood up and voted for their community and said so many nice things. It’s because of you, we won! Congrats Owego!

God has finally made chocolate in the form it should be…Practically calorie free!

Check this out! A Harvard professor has come up with what he calls “Le Whif” — basically inhalable chocolate with zero calories.

This thing kinda looks like a tube of lipstick mixed with an asthma inhaler. The dispensers will cost $53 bucks for a box of 24 and it’s said that you can use it alone or to add a lil something to your coffee.

All I can say is, when is one spray enough? You can bet if I have a bad day, just search for the empty Le Whif canisters!

Don’t you just HATE it when you settle into a tv show that you look forward to watching every week and then they go and kill off a main character? Why? Why? Why??? The show I’m speaking of is House Tuesday nights on Fox. People love this guy (including me) because he’s a jerk and isn’t afraid to be. Also the ladies love him because he’s wounded. (and I’m not talking about his cane)

The character I’m speaking of is Dr. Lawrence Kutner played by Kal Penn. Now altho he hasn’t been on the show a super long time, you still sort of develop a relationship with these characters and then they disappear! Well I got down to the bottom of what happend with Penn’s character:

Kal Penn is giving up his primetime acting gig for something a bit more serious: a job at the White House. He is going to become the “associate director in the White House office of public liaison.”  Basicly, to get out of the show easier, on last night’s episode of ‘House’ his Kutner character shot himself in the head out of nowhere …

I realize this guy wanted to go on and do something more constructive with his life, but how dare he interrupt the flow of one of my favorite shows! Darn it all!

Fox put together a really cool memorial page, tho, for fans of the show with messages from the other characters and where you can leave a message for the recently deceased.

It’s true that it takes all kinds to make the world go round, but to see 1,052 Rutgers students all dressed as Waldo, I have to admit is a bit disturbing.

They gathered Thursday to try to break the record for the Guinness World Record for The World’s Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Waldo. Apparently the previous Waldo record was 577 people.

I just want to know where they get that many ugly shirts!

A benefit for the Catholic Charities fund will be held at the TV 34 Studio in the Oakdale Mall Today, April 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Giant cards will be available for people to sign and express their condolences.

Do you ever read the newspaper, log onto the internet or flip on the tube and say to yourself “What the hell is going on in this country?”  That’s what I said to myself today, but today the crazy thing that happened in the news wasn’t in some far off distant land. It was right here. Right now.

The American Civic Association which is located in downtown Binghamton was the center of news today, where, at 10:30 this morning, a gunman opened fire in the building killing at least four people,  law enforcement said. Police told a local CNN affiliate that as many as 13 people are dead. 26 wounded. 41 hostages. It’s said now that the gunman killed himself. You can read the most updated news here.

A crisis hotline has been established by Broome County Government for community and family members who might have had relatives present at the American Civic Association shooting incident. The number is 607-778-3911. Also, for those of you looking to help donate you can do so here.

There are a lot of hotel rooms in the world to stay at but if you’re looking for something to really spice up your hotel stay or a story to tell your kids and grandkids about, stay at any one of the 110 rooms at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, California .

Each room has a different theme–from “Pioneer America” to “Swiss Chalet.” I’m fond of the “Madonna Suite” myself. There are showers carved from rock and you can even pee in a waterfall-like bathroom. 

So, I haven’t been one to ever use Craigslist, but if you’re looking for a good deal on furniture, a roomie, love or all three, this could be a good place to start! While perusing, I found a section called “Missed Connections” where if you’ve seen someone you’ve taken a liking to in the grocery store line but was too chicken to say “hi”, you can now post a message to them, hoping that by some stroke of luck, they might be smart enough to find you there too.

I came across one “Missed Connection” that was particularly cute, of a man who was on the Railtrail in Vestal.  He tried to catch the eye of a certain young lady running with her Ipod on. Romantic, maybe? Creepy, more likely.

If you’ve ever seen anyone, anywhere, at anytime that might have looked at you in any particular way that stuck your fancy, try your hand at Craigslist. And as that pesky lotto guy says.. “Hey, ya never know…”

Missed Connections

So for the longest time, I wanted nothing to do with “Social Networking“ sites because honestly, it didn’t sound that appealing, and frankly, I’m just too lazy to get involved. But due to peer pressure, and the fact that I was feeling a little out of the loop, I reluctantly joined. Now I am a Myspace, Facebook and most recently, Twitter fanatic. Twitter allows you to be the ultimate in lazy, only periodically updating your “status.” If you “Tweet” you’ll understand the video I’ve posted below.

I am a Twitter fan and found this hilarious. Brilliant, yet. Or is it Twilliant? I may have died a little typing that…
